The connection from the west into Palmyra has been left open for reasons that are unclear. It may be that the chart-maker was in some way made aware that the roads merged before entering Palmyra, but was unable to determine where this happened. The layout of the Roman roads was observed from the air by Poidebard in the early 20th century when manifest traces still existed, and this emendation follows Poidebard's map.
